A NEW TWIST ON THE SAME OLD GAME

Author: Clontarf | Filed under: Pitching horseshoes

We have been doing blind draw tournaments for many years now without having a way of assurining that powerhouse teams don’t draw one another and take the tournament. Fire Roller had the idea of an A and B class to make things fair years ago.   Over the next couple of months we are going to have all members without current nat/stats pitch 100 shoes to determine a percentage.  We don’t need to have you walk the shoes because we can just record as you play.  Once we have all stats recorded we’ll try a blind draw where all higher percentage pitchers draw from one hat and all low percentage pitchers draw from another.  This should even the playing field and make for a more beginner friendly environment.  We will be doing it on a trial basis to see how it goes and if it works out we will convert all tournaments to this method.

Another Idea I have been kicking around is a handicap.  If we have all percentages we can have bring your own partner tournaments with handicaps assigned to all teams prior to play.  At last year’s Redneck Olympix we ran two seperate tournaments which we will no longer have to do if one of these ideas goes well.  Let me know what you think would help to bring new players in and keep them.  I look forward to your input.
